ABOUT MEMORIES/SKILLS
MEMORIES | |
Characters win back memories by playing in games that are run by the Echoes. Your character's soul has been "shattered" into pieces, so each game rewards them a piece of themself back. There is no particular order in which memories are returned to them. We suggest having as many memories as you can add to a registry so your character can spend an adequate amount of time in the game's setting before good ending. Each "scene" from your character's canon will serve as a memory, and it's up to player discretion how to break certain memories up. Characters who don't delve into their childhood stories can have "montages" of growing up, for example. Opposite of that, one important scene where two important things happen can either be one memory, or two separate memories. For canon characters, we'd like an abundance of their canon scenes compared to headcanon memories. Headcanon memories are fine so long as they don't contradict anything in the canon itself. Basically, if a character is alluded to have a normal life with parents who care for them but aren't featured much, headcanon memories of vacations and things they've done together is fine. Just don't give Happy Teenager With Nice Parents sudden headcanon memories about said parents trying to kill them when they were six years old. In terms of characters with fake or implanted memories, or characters who may have an amnesia arc in canon, this will also be up to player discretion. However a memory of a character who gets amnesia in canon does not mean they will in Kyriakos forget everything they've regained so far just because they receive a memory of not remembering anything. For characters from series with multiple routes and endings, we ask you choose and stick to one route. If a series has a more "perfect" route that is considered the canon one or said to be by the creators, it's preferable that you use that. |
SKILLS | |
Skills are things your character can do. From knowing how to use a sword, to knowing how to use certain magic spells, cooking, different languages, leaping tall buildings in a single bound, and so on. A character's physical state will remain intact - but say, a built character who has trained and possesses superhuman strength in canon will not have that superhuman strength upon waking up, and will have to get it back via a shard. However, due to their body being a little more naturally fit, their punches will still land a little harder than a physically smaller character. How you set up and spread out your skills is up to you! A character who knows 20 magic spells can perhaps break them up into 4 separate skills shards each containing 5 spells each. Opposite of that, a character who knows 4 spells can keep each to a single shard. "Levels" for skills are completely acceptable, too. For example, a character who is a master of the sword can break up the skill into three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced, and be played with some skill without fully mastering something with a single regain. Things such as shapeshifting, werewolfism, vampirism, enhancements such as heightened hearing or seeing, abilities to mind control or even mental blocks against things like mind control are all considered skills. So are things such as familiars/spirits attached to your character's soul. If your character has some sort of sickness or physical disability they gain in canon, these can also be played with as skills. Please keep in mind that regaining these skills can occasionally have IC consequences, though a character who may regain the "skill" of having no use of their left arm can take the shard out and keep using it. Keep in mind if your character would opt to make moves like this or feel they need to keep such skills in their mirrors. In cases of characters that need certain sustenances to survive, things can be arranged via quests from Echoes and Cats. If you ever have questions about specifics where any skill is concerned and want opinions or clarification, please don't hesitate to e-mail the mods. In terms of aging up a character as a skill, or something like a loss of limb or other large physical change, we'd like to recommend you app a character at the age/physical form of the latest memories they will be regaining. Age-ups and limb loss apply more for cases of ongoing canons with timeskips or sequels. It wouldn't make much sense for a 14 year old character to gain memories from their 20s, after all. Though if you plan to only give a character memories from a first series, and a sequel later, they can be apped as the younger version and have their later memories unlocked later. If a character goes through a large physical change, such as a loss of a limb without a considerable age change, they can be apped as they are before said loss and regain it as a skill/memory. Keep in mind that characters do not relive injury, though, so they wouldn't suddenly start bleeding or being in any pain upon receiving a skill like that. Similarly, any robotic, prosthetic, or magical limbs depend on which it is. Characters can arrive in Kyriakos with a single item, and that item can absolutely be a robotic or prosthetic. Similarly all characters wake up with a single shard, and it absolutely can be a skill shard for a magical limb. Otherwise, robotic/prosthetics can be quested for and skills can be regained at a later time if that's preferred instead. Lastly, on the subject of skills and powers, please keep everything on the powercap page in mind! |
REGISTRY | |
Basically, a registry is a list of all of your character's memories and skills when you have them prepared! A registry serves as easy access both for you to keep track of your memories and regains, as well as game runners when it comes to choosing memories for the winners. How you set up and break up your character's memories is completely up to you! A main character from a long series will have a lot to work with, while a side character from a short series will have less, however they can have an equal number of memories depending on how a player breaks them up. Due to the potential of winning streaks there is always a chance of moving through a registry at a fast pace, so less memories may mean running out before you feel satisfied with your time in the game. Of course, registries are yours to change any time you wish. You can merge memories to shorten things or cut them up into more memories to stretch things out, so long as they haven't been regained and played with ICly yet. |
REGISTRY SET-UP | |
Generally, memories are sorted into both levels of importance and how good/happy or bad/upsetting they are. And are labeled for how they are felt in the memory itself. Meaning if your character in Kyriakos would have the opposite reaction upon remembering it, it'd still be labeled on your registry as to how it's perceived in the canon. Significant memories are memories that have a great impact on your character. Significant-Positive are their most happiest, cherished moments - such as a wedding day, or saving the world. Significant-Neutral memories have aspects of both good and bad things that are - such as saving the world but a friend sacrificing themself for it. Significant-Negative memories are the worst impactful memories - such as the antagonist killing a loved one while laughing in your character's face. Neutral memories are slightly less impactful, but still important for the character. Neutral-Positive would be a birthday party, or that time a character rode a dragon. Neutral-Neutral would be along the lines of an important serious conversation about a subject. Neutral-Negative would be something like that time your character had an argument with a friend. Trivial memories are lesser events. Trivial-Positive could be a good day at school that had nothing particularly standout about it. Trivial-Neutral could be a day where they failed a test but went out to eat ice cream to cheer up afterward. And Trivial-Negative could be the time they crashed their bike into a wall. The above is the most common way players sort their memories, and is by no means mandatory. You can set up your registry however works best for you so long as game runners can also easily reference it when choosing memories. Go crazy with coding and make your registry pretty, if it pleases you! There are tons of coding communities on Dreamwidth, such as ![]() Registry upkeep is up to you! All we ask is to please stay on top of marking off any regained memories appropriately. |
STATS | |
Aside from your registry page, we suggest posting a stats page for your character as well! This makes any quick referencing from other players a lot easier. Here is the most common template that we use:<b>Name:</b> Amnesia Name / Canon Name |
