HOW TOS

IRC
Kyriakos has an OOC chatroom, located on an IRC network. Our main channel plus many of the team channels are all located on the same server, and it's helpful for getting to talk and coordinate with your teammates during a game or if you want to try to ping people to get help with something! We realize that not everyone in the game knows how to use IRC, so this guide has been created as a way to help you as best as we can! Just read on to get the information that you need to know to use IRC.

mirrorping is what gamerunners use to catch the entire chat's attention during a game. Read below to learn about pings and how to add them so you can be alerted too!

IRC CLIENTS
First things first, you're going to need a client to get started. There are numerous clients that you can use, but this is a list of the most commonly used ones:
mIRC (you may have to click continue once or twice, but it never stops working once your trial period is up)
SysReset (same as above)
Colloquy (mac client)
Adium (mac client)
Mibbit (browser client)
ChatZilla(firefox addon)

CONNECTING
The images used for this are done using the mIRC client, but things should be similar for the other ones as well! If not, we can do our best to help you figure out IRC.

STEP 1
Open the client and click on the tools menu, and from there, go to Options. Alternatively, you can click the little icon that has a hammer to open up the Options menu! If it's your first time ever using IRC, it'll pop up automatically.

STEP 2
Once you're in the Options menu, go ahead and click on 'servers' under Connect. The network we use has to be added manually! Click 'Add' on the right side of the random server list.

STEP 3
After you click 'Add', you will be brought to an Add Server window. Fill it out with the following:
Description: Lunarnet
IRC Server: irc.lunarnet.org
Ports: 6667
And you don't need to fill out anything else. Once that's done, just click 'Add'!

STEP 4
Once you've done that, a new server will appear on your list. Click on it and then click on 'Select' on the right. It will take you back to 'Connect', and you're ready to connect to the server now! Click 'Connect' on the main popup, or click on the lightning bolt to connect or disconnect. This is what it should look like:

STEP 5
After you've connected, you will get a whole bunch of weird babble, though most of it isn't important. Once you're connected, a window will pop up about joining channels! You can get rid of that, since none of the channels that you're looking for are going to be in that list. You will be looking at something like this once you exit that popup window:

STEP 6
To join Kyriakos (or any other channel on the server), just type in "/join #kyriakos" (without the quotation marks) and it will take you there!

NICKS, CHANNELS, COMMANDS & PINGS
IRC can be a bit complicated and confusing for those that haven't used it before because of all of the commands and the fact that you can change your nick whenever you feel like it! This is going to be a rundown on the most important things that you need to know about IRC.

NICKS
Nicks are how you're going to identify yourself on IRC. You can use your own name or your character name — that part is ultimately up to you and your personal preference. You can also claim that nick to be yours. Doing this will let you be able to being a channel operator or let you do other kinds of things like registering a channel. Registering it is good because it also means that people can't take your nick from you!

To register your nick, use "/msg nickserv register PASSWORD EMAIL"! Once you've done that, your nick will be yours.

Once you've managed to register, you can log into your nick by typing "/msg nickserv identify PASSWORD" and it'll log you in.

If someone is on your nick and you want to use it OR if you disconnected and the IRC server is slow to respond, you can kick the nick off by using the command "/msg nickserv ghost NICK PASSWORD".

Changing your password is pretty easy too! To do that, just type "/msg nickserv set password NEW PASSWORD".

Finally, if you want to link another nick to your account because you switch names a lot or you just want it because you think you may need or want it later, you can link your nicks so that you don't have to worry about not getting your registered nick benefits. Do not register your second nick first - it will register as your main nickname if you do it first. When you do this, make sure you're on your new, unregistered nick! Finally, type "/msg nickserv link MAINNICK" and it will register and gain all of those awesome benefits.

CHANNELS
Channels are rpetty simple! To join a channel, just type in "/join #channelname" and it'll take you to that channel! Keep in mind that chans are case sensitive, so always type them like you see them if you want to join them! Creating a new channel is just as easy, since all you have to do is type "/join #CHANNAME" and it will make it for you.

Check out the team information or player contact page to find out your team's IRC channel!

PM
If you want to PM someone, just doubleclick on their nick in the sidebar. Otherwise, type "/msg nick HEY YOU LOSER" or something along those lines.

PINGS
Pings are great, and a good way to grab your attention if you're not paying attention to chan! You can set a specific word to make a noise at you so that you can start paying attention (or see it when you get back if you happen to be AFK). Gamerunners use the ping mirrorping, so it's a good idea to add that to your list! They're very easy to set up, so here's a quick guide:

STEP 1:
Go to the 'Address Book'! You can either click on the icon that looks like a file with multicolored tabs, or go to Tools and then to Address Book.
STEP 2:
Go to 'Highlight' on the window that pops up. Click 'Enable Highlight' and then click 'Add'!
STEP 3:
Put in the word that you want to ping you, and fill it out as you'd like it. You can pick a color and it will turn the text that color when your selected word or name appears in a sentence, and you can choose whether you want a sound to play or not!
STEP 4:
Click 'OK' when you've put in the words that you want and now your pings should be working. Enjoy!
