QUEST GUIDELINES & REQUESTS

QUESTING
Does your character need something they don't have in the game? An article of clothing, new shoes, a necklace, a sword, a plant, a toy, a book, a video game, a pet, a new limb if they canonically lost theirs, a heal from a disease they regain as a skill that's slowly draining their life, a new magical ability they don't normally possess? You get the idea. All of these things can feasibly be quested for in the game itself, and the Echo and Cats will be the characters you'll want to see for any of these!

To our Echo and Cat players, please track this post so you can be alerted to any new requests when they go up!

Please keep in mind that in terms of extremely huge quests, such as disease or affliction healing gained from a skill shard, or ones that completely transform or change your character in some way, to please contact the mods at kyriakosmods@gmail.com to get permission first! Likewise if there are any quests you're not sure about going ahead with.

ECHO QUESTS
Echoes can offer quests for a variety of goods and services, big and small, whether a character needs clothes, food, toys, weapons, or less mundane things such as healing or magical augmentation. Which Echo a character should turn to depends on various factors, such as how one Echo may offer a better deal than another. Healing quests must always come from your team's patron Echo or, if the injury was due to a game, from the Echo who ran it.

For both team and Echo players, please keep the following in mind:

The larger, more complex, or more powerful an item, the bigger the quest needs to be. A sword will always cost more than a pair of socks, and a fully functioning computer system will always cost more than a suitcase full of clothes. Animals such as Pokemon can be quested for, but they will always start out as an egg. And for large quests, we'd like them to not be handwaved!

For things like learning a new magical ability, bear in mind that if your character wants magic that isn't native to them, they're going to have to figure out how to use it through trial and error. And that said magic would start at a low level, needing multiple uses and training to grow stronger (example: 5 casts to get to level 2, 10 to level 3, and so on), not different from an RPG!

Quests can be almost anything, and they can be tailored to suit the character undertaking it. For example, an Echo could give a liar a quest to be honest or a secretive homebody a quest that involved going around to all of the different teams and sharing memories.

If your team is, for whatever reason, without a patron to provide them food and supplies, an Echo can offer quests for these things. These quests will usually be large and ongoing, depending on how long it takes for a team to take on a new patron.

CAT QUESTS
Offering characters quests is something that the Cats can do to win back a single memory shard for themselves, so odds are Cats will always be open to being approached with a request. Please keep in mind that Cats are limited to offering quests for small items only.

What counts as small? More mundane things, and only items that do not possess any magical ability. In terms of weapons, a small dagger would be fine whereas a larger sword would need an Echo quest. In terms of pets, a small kitten could be quested for, but not a Pokemon.

Cats can also get a character items from their home.

EDEN, noble dank patron of Alectryon, can handle any and all modern techy quests! I have an IC contact post up on their journal. :] If you don't want to thread it out, they ask people to collect poetry, art, and people singing on recording devices.

JO CAN HELP WITH THE DRESSES there's an IC post up in her journal but generally she would require you to either do a "cook a thing for jo" quest, or a social quest that would involve polling probably 3 people per dress about their favorite breakfast item. 'u'

OFFERING

[personal profile] healthunits 2015-09-14 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
What they specialize in giving: Units here specializes in providing items that are technologically or medically inclined. Things like pain-killers, first-aid kits, prostheses, computers, and anything up to advanced robotics are their jam. They also are good for children's items / toys and anything that characters need to stay healthy (so food is also good). Pets (including Pokemon) for emotional supports needs are also good.

What they won't/can't give: Magical abilities. Weapons. Recreational drugs (including alcohol and cigarettes). Because of their background, their programming prohibits them from enabling wisps from engaging in self-destructive behavior or behavior that will otherwise harm themselves or others.

What their quests usually involve: Units is an inquisitive echo constantly in search of more data; thematically, they're often going to ask for characters to find, give, or share information, either with them or with others.

The following are some generic quest ideas that I've brain-stormed, if you're interested in them or something like them, or are interested in something else you think Units would be suitable for, feel free to respond so we can tailor something!

  • Survey fellow wisps about their home worlds and technology ( 3-15 people)
  • Become an emotional support animal for another fellow wisp (1-3 days)
  • Transmit sensory data (vision, hearing, or smell) (1-3 days)
  • Share memories using their 3D goggles / headphones and wristband (2-7 people)
  • Teach a class for a useful skill (2-5 people)
  • Build a simple robot with a friend (or a complex one with a group)
  • Do computer repair work

Character name: Lucciola
Item(s) requested: The bird Dio had to take care of for Kanra!
Type of quest preferred: ANYTHING REALLY. I'd love something social and/or cute for him to do, and semi!handwaveable, so it won't take ages to thread out. He's taken care of a ton of animals for Swan Maiden before so that's a thing in example.

Ideally, I suppose it'd be best to get the quest from Kanra herself too, if possible?

Would taking care of a couple of these little things work for you? Probably for two or three days with instructions to make sure they interact with some other people/generally be out and about and active with them. (I've got a little write up on them over here if you want more info on them.)

...oh no those are adorable, jdkjfkl...! I'm totally fine with this! Lucciola gets to keep being a Disney Princess, so this is excellent. ♥

Great! When you finish the quest, we can handwave Castling turning it in if you want and getting this egg from her; either him or Rook will just need to keep it warm for a day and it'll hatch into the bird.

[personal profile] lucciola 2015-09-19 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Whichever works best! I'm fine either way. And eeee thank you! <3

[personal profile] withmyownfists 2015-09-26 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Character name: Roc
Item(s) requested:
a silver menorah
a gold necklace
apple tree and sakura tree saplings + gardening supplies + a book on gardening
a messenger pigeon
a pokemon egg (shinx)

Type of quest preferred: I want to take a de-age quest for at least some of the living items, but I would also like to put that off until after the AU game (unless AU-ing into a non-deaged form doesn't break the quest).
vaguelydied: (yelling | see here losers!)

[personal profile] vaguelydied 2015-09-26 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hello! I would gladly give you a de-age quest after the AU game :D Jo could do the Pokemon and mmmmaybe the pigeon? So we could probably put both together in one quest depending on how long you want to de-age.
maidenof: (Starshine!)

[personal profile] maidenof 2015-09-26 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
The Maiden would be more than happy to help with the saplings/gardening equipment, though it may take a few quests.

At the very least, the book on gardening and gardening supplies should be able to fit into a single quest, though?

Since you've already got an offer for the de-ageing though, we'll probably have to discuss the specifics on what you want to do for it.
withmyownfists: by verisimilitude @ plurk (celebration)

[personal profile] withmyownfists 2015-09-26 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Pokemon and pigeon would be fine, and I'd even be willing to wedge em on the same quest. How long would you like her to be a bitty in exchange?
withmyownfists: by kimmeh & verisimilitude @ plurk (pondering)

[personal profile] withmyownfists 2015-09-26 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
We could certainly at least start with the gardening book and supplies on a single quest, and I'm totally find with the saplings and gardening equipment taking a few if necessary. What kinds of quests does the maiden like to offer? I'm always cool with doing designing/making and/or social quests. Normally I'd be willing to offer up skill or sense losses but I might want to hold off on those at the moment (have to, for the skills, anyway).
maidenof: (Starshine!)

[personal profile] maidenof 2015-09-26 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there are a couple possibilities here, let's see... If we're going after a social quest, let's see... Forced honesty is a possibility, though I don't know how long I should make it.

Another possibility is census taking! Talk to people you don't know and gather their vital information for The Maiden's endless pile of paperwork statistics! Basically, everything on a person's stat page needs to be itemized and listed down, including (if possible) both their team name and original name, as well as Race and (if possible) world of origin. In the case where you have multiple universes with the same name Like all of the "Earths", find a way to mark them all so that they all have distinct identities!

If you want to do something more design/making focuses, I'll have to think about it a bit more, but it will most likely require one to gather up the necessary materials themselves.

Of course, if you can think of other ideas, feel free to throw them out. Thematically, her things are nature, bureaucracy, and "the end of one thing is the beginning of a new thing", so as long as it fits into one of those three themes, it should be fine.

[personal profile] withmyownfists 2015-09-26 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
Forced honesty could be interesting! Hiyori's not a character that tends to lie much, or at least... mmn... it's more like... softening the things that she says? So that could work. I'd be willing to run with that as long as you feel is necessary.

The census might be interesting, but it sounds like it could get a bit difficult with the world of origin. How many people would she want?

Maybe let's avoid designing anything for the moment. Other quests I'd be willing to do... taking care of animals, tending to plants, speech loss, having to perform tasks designated by teammates or other people of her choosing, maybe doing filing or sorting of some kind since she's into bureaucracy... EDIT: I could also possibly do an animal transformation, provided it doesn't interfere with any other simultaneous quest? :D Anything there strike your fancy?

vaguelydied: (interested | what did you say?)

[personal profile] vaguelydied 2015-09-26 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. For Technic's mechanical parts quest I said one week mandatory unless Nik wanted to do more, but I'd want to see some substantial play with it. For safe bets I'd say an OOC week for the first pet, and another week for the second.

We could also split it up and you could do a different quest for one of them if two weeks sounds like too much! (Conversely, if you want to do MORE than two weeks, you are welcome to; Jo is so forgetful she'd probably just leave someone like that, that was the excuse for Technic haha).
maidenof: (Starshine!)

[personal profile] maidenof 2015-09-26 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Hm... To be honest, I'm not sure on the numbers, since I don't exactly do quests all that often, umm... Let's say... 6 strangers, or 12 people you know for the census? Or is that too high?

...The speech loss one actually sounds kind of fun. If you do that, she'll include a book on sign language for you, too. ...At the cost of making the quest longer. Let the end of your ability to talk bring about something new!

As for the animal transformation... We could do that, but you're probably going to end up as some weird incomprehensible animal like a wolf with vines growing out of its body, which gets its nutrients from the dirt and photosynthesis. Her world is a very strange place, okay?
