QUEST GUIDELINES & REQUESTS

QUESTING
Does your character need something they don't have in the game? An article of clothing, new shoes, a necklace, a sword, a plant, a toy, a book, a video game, a pet, a new limb if they canonically lost theirs, a heal from a disease they regain as a skill that's slowly draining their life, a new magical ability they don't normally possess? You get the idea. All of these things can feasibly be quested for in the game itself, and the Echo and Cats will be the characters you'll want to see for any of these!

To our Echo and Cat players, please track this post so you can be alerted to any new requests when they go up!

Please keep in mind that in terms of extremely huge quests, such as disease or affliction healing gained from a skill shard, or ones that completely transform or change your character in some way, to please contact the mods at kyriakosmods@gmail.com to get permission first! Likewise if there are any quests you're not sure about going ahead with.

ECHO QUESTS
Echoes can offer quests for a variety of goods and services, big and small, whether a character needs clothes, food, toys, weapons, or less mundane things such as healing or magical augmentation. Which Echo a character should turn to depends on various factors, such as how one Echo may offer a better deal than another. Healing quests must always come from your team's patron Echo or, if the injury was due to a game, from the Echo who ran it.

For both team and Echo players, please keep the following in mind:

The larger, more complex, or more powerful an item, the bigger the quest needs to be. A sword will always cost more than a pair of socks, and a fully functioning computer system will always cost more than a suitcase full of clothes. Animals such as Pokemon can be quested for, but they will always start out as an egg. And for large quests, we'd like them to not be handwaved!

For things like learning a new magical ability, bear in mind that if your character wants magic that isn't native to them, they're going to have to figure out how to use it through trial and error. And that said magic would start at a low level, needing multiple uses and training to grow stronger (example: 5 casts to get to level 2, 10 to level 3, and so on), not different from an RPG!

Quests can be almost anything, and they can be tailored to suit the character undertaking it. For example, an Echo could give a liar a quest to be honest or a secretive homebody a quest that involved going around to all of the different teams and sharing memories.

If your team is, for whatever reason, without a patron to provide them food and supplies, an Echo can offer quests for these things. These quests will usually be large and ongoing, depending on how long it takes for a team to take on a new patron.

CAT QUESTS
Offering characters quests is something that the Cats can do to win back a single memory shard for themselves, so odds are Cats will always be open to being approached with a request. Please keep in mind that Cats are limited to offering quests for small items only.

What counts as small? More mundane things, and only items that do not possess any magical ability. In terms of weapons, a small dagger would be fine whereas a larger sword would need an Echo quest. In terms of pets, a small kitten could be quested for, but not a Pokemon.

Cats can also get a character items from their home.

The Maiden would be more than happy to help with the saplings/gardening equipment, though it may take a few quests.

At the very least, the book on gardening and gardening supplies should be able to fit into a single quest, though?

Since you've already got an offer for the de-ageing though, we'll probably have to discuss the specifics on what you want to do for it.

We could certainly at least start with the gardening book and supplies on a single quest, and I'm totally find with the saplings and gardening equipment taking a few if necessary. What kinds of quests does the maiden like to offer? I'm always cool with doing designing/making and/or social quests. Normally I'd be willing to offer up skill or sense losses but I might want to hold off on those at the moment (have to, for the skills, anyway).

Well, there are a couple possibilities here, let's see... If we're going after a social quest, let's see... Forced honesty is a possibility, though I don't know how long I should make it.

Another possibility is census taking! Talk to people you don't know and gather their vital information for The Maiden's endless pile of paperwork statistics! Basically, everything on a person's stat page needs to be itemized and listed down, including (if possible) both their team name and original name, as well as Race and (if possible) world of origin. In the case where you have multiple universes with the same name Like all of the "Earths", find a way to mark them all so that they all have distinct identities!

If you want to do something more design/making focuses, I'll have to think about it a bit more, but it will most likely require one to gather up the necessary materials themselves.

Of course, if you can think of other ideas, feel free to throw them out. Thematically, her things are nature, bureaucracy, and "the end of one thing is the beginning of a new thing", so as long as it fits into one of those three themes, it should be fine.

Forced honesty could be interesting! Hiyori's not a character that tends to lie much, or at least... mmn... it's more like... softening the things that she says? So that could work. I'd be willing to run with that as long as you feel is necessary.

The census might be interesting, but it sounds like it could get a bit difficult with the world of origin. How many people would she want?

Maybe let's avoid designing anything for the moment. Other quests I'd be willing to do... taking care of animals, tending to plants, speech loss, having to perform tasks designated by teammates or other people of her choosing, maybe doing filing or sorting of some kind since she's into bureaucracy... EDIT: I could also possibly do an animal transformation, provided it doesn't interfere with any other simultaneous quest? :D Anything there strike your fancy?

Hm... To be honest, I'm not sure on the numbers, since I don't exactly do quests all that often, umm... Let's say... 6 strangers, or 12 people you know for the census? Or is that too high?

...The speech loss one actually sounds kind of fun. If you do that, she'll include a book on sign language for you, too. ...At the cost of making the quest longer. Let the end of your ability to talk bring about something new!

As for the animal transformation... We could do that, but you're probably going to end up as some weird incomprehensible animal like a wolf with vines growing out of its body, which gets its nutrients from the dirt and photosynthesis. Her world is a very strange place, okay?

The wolf idea actually sounds *really* neat, and she'd like it, probably, since her skiddo probably works on similar concepts, or something. I'm also intrigued by speech loss with sign language, but wondering how that would work with enforced honesty? Maybe it would be better to go strange animal transformation and enforced honesty. Could that work?

Yeah, strange animal transformation and enforced honesty works.

...I'll keep the speech loss with sign language handy for another time she's questing.

[personal profile] withmyownfists 2015-09-26 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Cool! Would a time span between now (174) right up until the au game starts work? If not, we could keep the enforced honesty going on through the game, but she'll definitely be changing during the game itself.

I... think it should be fine? Like I said, I'm not sure on how big I should make quests, so... I think that should be good?

[personal profile] withmyownfists 2015-09-26 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm never sure myself tbh |D I've never quested for plants before so xD it's a new one!!!

Anyway, thanks a bunch. Do you have an image of the creature, or should I look up one?

EDIT DOS: I found this: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/bc/8b/5b/bc8b5b122a2267ab3fd74dfb3f7a325b.jpg What do you think?

(Also, do you mind hand waving her actually requesting it, just to speed things along?)

Yeah, that's good. For both questions, that's good!
